Michael Jones

‘Soldier, Councillor, Churchman’.

Three words to sum up a life; three words chosen by Michael himself as the epitaph to stand on his memorial stone. And yet this man, who was bound up in the life of Edington for more than four decades, was so much more than this. His knowledge of village life – and of the Priory church in particular – was encyclopaedic, and he served the village in many roles during the years that he lived at Bonshommes Cottage.

On a perfect spring afternoon, Michael’s funeral was held in a packed Priory church on 10 May 2018. For those unable to attend in person, Rev Malcolm Wieck has kindly made available the text of the address that he delivered on the day. You can read it by clicking on the link below.
