On Friday 10th May a small but enthusiastic audience enjoyed two hours of impeccable jazz piano from this charming young Italian.

Like one of his mentors, Dave McKenna, Rossano tends to home in on “themes”, sometime composers, sometimes subject matter, maybe girls names for example. As his composers for the evening he chose Fats Waller, Hoagy Carmichael, George Shearing and Chopin! Blue Room, Honeysuckle Rose, Rocking Chair and the Revolutionary Etude were among the offerings.
Having been advised that there was a young man in the audience who was rather keen on jazz piano, Rossano sought him out in the interval and then invited him to come up and share the keyboard. Rossano played the bass, rhythm accompaniment while Archie played in the upper registers. Impressive and very moving.
Prior to coming to Edington, Rossano had appeared at the Norwich Jazz Party, the Concorde Club, Eastleigh and played for pupils and tutors in the Master's House, St Johns College, Cambridge where he also gave three master classes. On his return to New York he has a residency at the Cafe Carlyle, New York City, playing the music of George Shearing in June.
A great talent so charmingly wrapped. We will see him again.
