Cheney monument restoration 2015

Many Friends will know that in recent years the conservator David Odgers has been carefully monitoring the Cheney monument in the south aisle.

Rising damp from the various springs that run and regularly change course below the church had caused some of the monument's stone surfaces to deteriorate. Work carried out in 2013 to alleviate the damp problem was successful.
Mr Odgers presented his final report earlier this year, together with a conservation plan. The PCC approved the works and made a request to the Friends for a grant to cover the costs. This was duly voted for at this year's AGM, and the work was carried out during two weeks in November.
We thought you might like to see these photographs of the works and the people who did it! The monument itself looks splendid. Do have a good look when you next get the opportunity.
