Supper at The Ivy

Straw bales and subdued lighting set the scene for Edington’s 2007 harvest supper and barn dance at Ivy Mill Farm on 29th September. It was a winning combination.

From the floodlit car park to the huge jug of flowers at the barn door, everything at Richard & Liz Tyler’s farm said ‘welcome’ as guests began to arrive on Saturday evening. The barn was simply decked out with an attractive stage, bunting and strings of fairy lights, whilst comfortable straw bale seating flanked both sides of the dance floor.

Short ’n Porter set the scene with some lively traditional music as around 140 people arrived and found their way to the bar. It was a relaxing start to the evening before caller Geoff Elwell coaxed couples out into the centre for some patient tuition on the dance floor.

Several energetic routines helped to work up an appetite until the music was hushed, and grace preceded an appetising ploughman’s supper. Home-made fruit crumble and cream rounded the meal off nicely, and then it was back to the dance floor for the remainder of the evening.

A huge vote of thanks goes to Richard & Liz for their hospitality, and to all the volunteers who helped make the evening such a resounding success.
