Teas and talking

The sun shone on Edington for the last few days of the 2007 Music Festival, and Saturday dawned bright and warm for the Friends’ Annual Festival on 25th August.

Some 35 Friends attended the Annual General Meeting in the Priory Church. The Treasurer reported that no charitable grants had been made during the year, and a welcome rise in investment income had led to a modest increase in the Friends’ reserves.

Churchwarden Robin Wilson thanked the many people who quietly helped with so many practical tasks throughout the year. He also reported on plans to improve the car park.

Michael Jones described how the Upper Parvis, above the south porch, had been cleared and fitted out as a music library with help from the Music Festival Association. Friends voted a £900 grant for cleaning and repairing vestments and altar frontals, which are in regular use throughout the year.

On the membership front, Friends heard that a new promotional leaflet and free-standing banner had been produced, whilst work on the website continued. Appointment of a membership officer was approved, and two new Council members – Joy Hornsey and David Foster – were also elected.

After the meeting everyone adjourned to the south-west corner for cream teas, with delicious scones made by Amy Watts.
