Lighten up February

Visitors from Oxfordshire and Hampshire swelled an audience of over a hundred people who enjoyed the music of Fairlight II on 5th February 2010.

Playing on the raised area beneath the tower, Edington couple Adrienne and Paul Hale kicked off an evening of easy listening with the Bee Gees number How deep is your love. The couple, who began performing as Fairlight II in 1991, soon had the audience on their feet in an area of the nave that had been cleared for dancing. The evening continued with more hits from the 1970s and '80s, including Billy Joel's Just the way you are and Love is in the air from John Paul Young.

Local guitarist Kevan Hall joined the duo for some instrumental numbers before the break for supper, which was served in a bistro-style setting at candle-lit tables behind the band.

Hot baked potatoes were on the menu, served with salads and a choice of hot fillings, as well as drinks from the bar in the south-west corner of the church. The meal was rounded off with coffee and delicious home-made cakes before Fairlight II returned to the stage with more music, including Abba's hit single Mamma Mia and Lady in red from Chris de Burgh.

Huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the evening a resounding success.
